A Call for Artists for the 10”x10” Online Art Exhibition and Sale entitled:

Ten Squared: After the Peconic Bay Impressionists at Southold Historical Museum.

Back by popular demand, Ten Squared is a fundraising exhibit and sale for Southold Historical Museum. The theme of the next exhibit is entitled After the Peconic Bay Impressionists. In this non-juried exhibition, artists are invited to submit pieces that are 10” x 10”. Each work will be sold for $100, half of which will benefit Southold Historical Museum. The online exhibit and sale will be Monday, July 15 – August 31, 2024.

At the turn of the 20th Century, artists were drawn to the East End for its light and beauty. The early painters, known as the Peconic Bay Impressionists, were Irving Ramsay Wiles and Edith and Henry Prellwitz. Some other notable North Fork artists included Caroline M. Bell, Julia Wickham, Whitney M. Hubbard, and Otto Joseph Kurth. The painters not only painted en plein air, but also painted still lifes, portraits, and genre art.  A century later, artists are still coming to the East End to paint. This exhibit will feature the Peconic Bay Artists of the 21st Century, continuing the legacy of these influential artists.

Artists are invited to submit up to 3 works measuring 10” x 10”, not including a thin frame. All mediums are accepted. The artwork should be dry and hang-ready. Please attach a label to the back of the artwork with the Artist's Name, Title, and Medium. (As noted, all artwork will be sold for $100.00, half of which will benefit the Southold Historical Museum.)

Finished, dry, and hangable 10” x 10” works are due with submission forms in the Southold Historical Museum office at the Prince Building, 54325 Main Road, Southold, by Friday, June 14, 2024. Kindly drop off work during office hours (10 am-2 pm) from Monday, June 10 through Friday, June 14, 2024. Due to holidays and staff availability, no late entries will be accepted.
